Don’t Bow Down to THEIR Weapon

So, this one will be much shorter than some others and doesn’t have quotes or links. I don’t think you need me to link to some of the terrible things in DC this week or the destruction of the American Public Health system or the complete failure of a mayor. You can look those and other things up for yourself. No, I want to talk about something larger and darker.

DESPAIR

All of us feel this from time to time and it fits the circumstances to a point, but…

Despair is the weapon of the Fash and the Bully. If they strip you of your will to fight back and resist, they have already won.

DO NOT CONCEDE THE BATTLEFIELD WITHOUT A FIGHT!

Trump is a loser, bully, fascist backed by Nazis with NOTHING. You and I and many others are stronger than any six or ten of these people and there are more of us. SO MANY more. Guys, I have MET them. Making you scared and alone is what they want.

Take some time if you need to. No one will judge you. But do NOT fall into Despair. That is doing their work for them. Not once will I ever do that.

One of my uncles was a radio man on a B-17 who was a teetotaller. (Anyone who has been in Sumbel with me can quote this one.) When they came back from a mission, and many they knew did not, they sat with an intelligence officer and were given a large ration of Scotch while they were debriefed. He always gave his to a friend on the crew. When he told me this story, he looked me straight in the eyes: “And then we flew over Berlin…” He apologized to his friend and kept his ration. He drank from that day forward and I managed to teach him about better whisky over time.

We’ve all been hit. Hard.

Take a break and take a drink. Toast to who and what you love. Share with friends where you can.

Tomorrow or the next day, get back into it wherever you can.
