CHECK YOUR HEALTH
MAINTENANCE IS IMPORTANT
This is a day late due to the fact that I have spent the last two nights with a bunch of Heathen friends, some of whom I have not seen since our Kindred days years ago. As part of that, I workshopped a LOT of topics for future posts but we settled on this one first.
I had a recent, brief, health scare along with several others in my larger family and so I think I will write about this today and come back to other topics last week. Without getting into details, I was briefly in the ER for a few hours and have had to make some changes for a condition that I knew about but had NEVER affected me in that manner. We are still not sure of what caused the issue, and may never know for sure but I have had to make some adjustments and be a bit more cautious about some things.
I have said before that 15 Rounds is about the long fight we are in and a long fight assumes breaks and self care. Part of that self care is seeing to your health. Therefore, here is a non-exhaustive list of things to look at:
Arrange your physical
Arrange any bloodwork or other diagnostics
Manage your diet
If you are on medication, have a pill sorter to prevent mistakes. Make sure folks know where your meds are. If necessary, set alarms.
Exercise, in moderation. Even younger folks can overdo things and injure themselves which leads to less exercise and becomes a downward spiral.
Make sure you have good shoes and socks.
If you have diabetes:
Have a blood test kit
Have Glucose tablets
Know your A1C and get it tested
Make sure other folks know of your condition and where your gear is
If you have high blood pressure or other conditions, have the gear to measure possible problems and, again, let other folks know where those are
Encourage everyone to discuss health issues openly and know each others’ limits and concerns. Some health issues can be more acute at times than others.
Take breaks from the fight, when you need to. If your cup is empty, you cannot share with others and become a liability and not a strength. None of us are superheroes.
Know your Limitations and Abolish Guilt. You do not need to always be physically present. There is work in the kitchen, the work of the spiritual with prayers and emotional support and many other things. Do not carry guilt or shame if you cannot physically be there. This is a common burden many Heathens hear. Abolish this and do what you can.
Take the time to be just a person and take care of yourself. You cannot pour from an empty cup.

CONFUSION TO OUR ENEMIES!

Very glad you’re okay! Thanks for this; I’ve sent it to my bf who was saying he’s not sure he’s up to protesting today. I told him to take care of him, and if that means taking a week off, then do it.
